Located at the crossroads of Central Oregon, Redmond has long been known as the “Hub of Central Oregon.” Recently, Redmond has undergone a dramatic renaissance in becoming a true jewel of the high desert. Redmond history is as unique as the people who live here. Redmond experienced an economic boom back in 1911 when the railway came through, both during construction and after its completion. The intersection of Highways 97 and 126 in Redmond initially brought people here by accident, but many returned because they had discovered the beauty of Redmond. Today the community attracts a diverse group of newcomers, including young professionals, growing families and energetic baby boomers seeking that ideal location to enjoy the good life. Celebrating life to its fullest is what Redmond is all about.
Uniquely situated at the western edge of the High Desert, Redmond is just four miles from the Deschutes River, a half-hour drive from the Cascade Mountains and within minutes of several picturesque lakes. Redmond is also home to Robert’s Field, Central Oregon’s only commercial airport. Redmond rests on the High Desert plateau at an elevation of 3,077 feet above sea level, which makes this an ideal location to take advantage of the best weather Central Oregon has to offer.
Redmond’s iconic “Welcome to Redmond” archway is a signature piece for our newly revitalized downtown. Greeting all who enter Redmond, the landmark arch on 6th Street is flanked by flower planters, trees, and tables with chairs for an ideal place to sit, relax with friends or to just people watch. You can’t help but notice the energy of the community from this location, and it is also a great place to start your shopping experience. Redmond has a little of everything, contemporary boutiques, antiques and unique pieces of art by local artists.
